Carolina Yarn Bell for Knitting or Crochet. Handmade in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains (Red Azalea)
USD 38.00
For more than two centuries fiber arts have been practiced in the Southern Highlands. Spinning wheels, looms, skein-winders and other tools of these noble crafts were brought into the area or fabricated locally, and were kept in repair for generations using any repair materials available. Independent, resourceful people were clever at borrowing pieces of old, broken objects for these purposes. Lost in the mists of time is the origin of what is called the "yarn bell." An early one may have indeed been made out of an old cast-iron bell. Or it could have been an old pot which - turned up-side down - had the shape of a bell, more or less. Old-timers can recall all sorts of things used for the purpose, with a hole drilled in the top to draw out the yarn. As a utilitarian and simple object in years gone by, the yarn bell wasn't thought worthy of much attention to design. But today we celebrate the simple tools of fiber arts. We admire their integrity, the authenticity of their function, their heirloom quality. As we no longer need to make objects by hand, but do so now for the inherent joy of the traditional process, we celebrate these activities with things that feel good to our touch, are appealing to see, and which remind us that every tool we use in fiber art is made by human beings like ourselves. Carolina Yarn Bell is today's interpretation of traditional yarn bells. Measuring approximately 5-1/2" high by 7" in diameter, each one is beautifully designed and durably crafted for your enjoyment. All our lead-free glazes are smooth, permanent, and gentle on your yarn. Choose among six different colorways to express your own spirit. There's sure to be at least one Carolina Yarn Bell that works with your décor, to display with pride in your own home, or to present as a very special gift. Our brand is the mark of high quality, an heirloom to treasure for generations. Carolina Yarn Bells are handmade in Columbus, North Carolina, USA .

(This machine cannot create large size socks unfortunately). Hello fellow knitters this is a note from Rachel one of the resident product testers and knitting addicts here at Paradise Fibers. I have been playing with the Addi Express for some time now and I must say it is super neat. I'm working on a cute shawl/shrug that is in the Quick and Easy Knitting with Addi Express book. The shrug is made using knitted strips that will then be stitched together. I am the worst person about darning but I decided that for the speed of this little machine a little sewing is not a bad trade off at all. I used Art yarns for my project and so far it is turning out great. Keep on the lookout for a video about my project. I found that once you get the hang of casting on, knitting is a breeze. I use a steady rhythm and keep a sharp eye on the needles to avoid mishaps although when a stitch is naughty it is pretty easy to mend using the instructions in the book. This machine is very compact too. It cl

The Art of Knitting: Inspirational Stitches, Textures, and Surfaces
USD 29.15
A unique, visually inspiring, all-color survey of knitted textile designs and patterns.Francoise Tellier-Loumagne has taught textile and knit design in France for more than thirty years. Drawing on her experience as teacher and practitioner, she has assembled a creative and inventive overview of stitches and fabrics, both hand-knitted and machine-made, presenting hundreds of sumptuous ways of working with yarn, from silk thread to Shetland wool. Other books propose patterns to copy; this book uses basic patterns as points of departure, opening up endless possibilities for sophisticated knitting designs. The book is organized by fabric types: simple knits, jacquards, fine jersey knits, interlock, open-work, and many others. It covers hand knitting, domestic machine knitting, and industrial knitting, explaining the relevant techniques and notation for each. The author encourages the reader to be innovative and to experiment with the various techniques, drawing inspiration from the natural world and one's personal surroundings: pebbles on the sand, autumn leaves, snow sparkling in the sun, weeds and grasses bending in the wind.
